Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment is provided?
If you want to try scuba first, all equipment is provided in the Discover Scuba class.
For Open Water class each student must have their own mask, snorkel, fins and boots. When these items are purchased from Great American Divers, each student will receive a $100 discount. The knowledgeable and friendly staff will guide you through this process, explaining the functionality of their extensive gear choices to help you decide on what's best for you. All other equipment for your pool and open water dives is provided and included in the price of each course.
How long does it take to get certified?
The online curriculum is studied at your own pace. Once it is completed you could be certified in as little as two weekends! These could be scheduled back to back or with a break. A typical scenario for the pool dives would be to meet on a Saturday for 3 dives and then on Sunday for 2 dives. The next weekend would require a trip to a spring-fed quarry in southern Illinois. There, divers will somplete 3 dives on Saturday and 1 final dive on Sunday. More information on logistics, accomodations and scheduling will be provided when you sign up for class. Another option is to take the class and pool course here with us and then do your open water dives on your trip to the destination of your choice. This is called a referral and would not be affiliated with either PSI or Great American Divers. We would provide you with all the documentation neccesary to complete your certification with another dive operation.
